I just received my weekly copy of People magazine, and was surprised to see that the cover is of Shannon Dougherty’s passing – and the assassination attempt on Trump was a blip headline across the top.

The surprise quicky turned to disgust.

Doctors take the Hippocratic oath and they do not get to choose who they will save – it doesn’t matter if it’s a prisoner who committed some heinous crime, or an innocent child. They will do their best to take care of that individual.

Reporters are supposed to report unbiased facts. But more and more it seems that what reporters – and their outlets, be it newspapers, magazines, radio, internet or television, use these outlets to “report” their personal opinions.

That is just wrong.

Their duty is to report events as they happen, with facts….and then allow us mere mortals to make up our minds.

I remember watching a talk show once…it might have been as long ago as Johnny Carson, but no later than Jay Leno…and a guest was being interviewed about the presidential race at that time – did they support So & So like this famous star and that famous star did?

I’ll never forget their response and it still holds true today: “why should I cast my vote based on who that famous star and that famous star thinks should be President? They can’t even commit to a marriage that lasts more than a few months, so why would I think they’re the moral compass I need to follow for what is best for my country?”

Truer words have never been spoken.

And People magazine, if you read this: shame on you. Shannon Dougherty’s passing is sad, but she was not an actor say, of the caliber of Meryl Streep, to deserve the front page of your magazine over a historic assassination attempt.

Shame, shame, shame on you.
